Whether you're looking for something fun to do or an opportunity to let off some real steam safely, Kickin Axes in McAllen, Texas is a great place to experience!
First opened in 2019, Kickin Axes is the first and currently only indoor axe throwing facility in the Rio Grande Valley. It is owned by three friends and proud US veterans who also served as firefighters for the McAllen Fire Department.
Similar to darts, but with definitely more of an edge, axe throwing involves aiming at a large target to hit the bullseye as closely as possible. Rocking a firefighter theme, the facility has 10 single-target stations, for groups of four or fewer, and double-target stations, for groups of five to 10. Tables at each station are safely spaced apart from other groups with a bottle of hand sanitizer.
Each station comes with games you can play to compete against your friends or family. If you prefer a more private experience, they offer a Fire House Private Room which accommodates up to 25 people and features 1- Double Target Station, 6 tables, TV, and even a speaker for music and karaoke. According to their website, as part of their health and safety precautions stations and common areas are sanitized in between sessions and employees are expected to wear masks.
For our experience, we booked their 1-hour double target station for 5-10 people and had a blast with our friends. Since it was our very first time here, we got a brief lesson by one of their Kick Axe coaches on basic axe throwing techniques, safety measures, and rules for playing.
Overall, we had a great experience here and really look forward to coming back with family and friends!
